WAITING FOR THE JAILER

The American incarceration rate has reached a new high. Now more than one man in every hundred is in prison.

For those who have checked my streaming video you will have noticed that I start off every video pointing out the high incarceration rate of men. I started filming in 1993 and at that time the number of men in prison was just over one million. That was a 400% increase over 1976. We now have 2.4 million men in prison.

And what are we doing about it? Are we just waiting at home for the KGB to knock on our door and take us away? Perhaps not. Instead we might be so grateful that we are living in the land of the free—the land that has the highest incarceration rate in the world and more men in prison than China and India combined—that we do not even notice this infringement on our liberties.

We have passed the point of living like the people in George Orwell’s 1984; we have moved to the level of Huxley’s Brave New World—we love our captors. Anyone who says anything about our captors is un-American.

For those who believe in working within the system, putting people in jail is what the system does. It has been doing this on a consistent basis ever since the Great Society legislation of the 1960’s. It is a way of life in America. And this high rate of incarceration is occurring in good economic times. What will happen when the economy finally collapses and unemployment becomes rampant?

Apparently we’ll just wait and see. The lack of response to my last Message From Elder George would indicate that to be the prevailing viewpoint. We’ll just wait. Maybe it’ll go away. Maybe they won’t get me or my family. If it hasn’t gone away in the last 50 years, but instead has gotten worse, why would anyone expect things to get better?

We live in a society that has opted for the rule of government instead of the rule of men. The way governments maintain their rule is to put men in prison. They do this by enacting increasingly onerous laws and then arresting those who transgress those laws.

If we don’t want men to be put in jail in increasing numbers we have to start ruling ourselves. That means working outside of the system. There is only one organization that offers a solution outside of the system. It’s called Men’s Action to Rebuild Society. It’s not an organization that is going to make change for you; it’s an organization that will give you the opportunity to help change your circumstances with those who believe as you do.

Men’s Action requires more than your support; it requires your involvement. It means getting rid of the expectation that an outside force will better your life. It means that you are responsible for your life and the greater community. This is not done through government but through patriarchy and the care of family. It means fulfilling your manly responsibilities.

There are no dues at men’s Action, but it is expected that you will promote the message that you believe in, which is done by distributing our book and booklets. I suggested a starter supply of two books and two sets of booklets, one for your self and one for an interested person.

You can invest in change or wait for the knock at the door.
