WHY SWEAT PALIN?
The motivation for the article below came from reading an article by Sam Harris entitled When Atheists Attack, which appeared in the September 29, 2008 issue of Newsweek
Hi Sam,
Congratulations on your exceptionally informative article in Newsweek entitled When Atheists Attack.
You have a command of language and literary skill that enables you to clearly and forcefully present your message or—as was unintended in this article—support a contrary message. You built a case for an opposing viewpoint better than I could.
You stated, “Half the electorate revels in Palin’s lack of intellectual qualifications.” What are intellectual qualifications Sam, who decides upon them? Western man has always found that indigenous people lacked intellectual qualifications; he then proceeded to destroy their societal structure and impose a way of life based upon his “intellectual” knowledge. He took people away from their understanding of nature and unseen spiritual forces and forced them to rely on grossly materialistic and myopic values, which brought about their social degeneration.
You question Palin’s ability to confront issues like “nuclear proliferation, ongoing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, global climate change, a convulsing economy, emerging epidemics, Russian belligerence, the deterioration of American schools, and failures of energy, etc.” Western man created all of these conditions Sam, and they were not the Palin’s of society, they were the elitists.
You ask, “What doesn’t she know about financial markets, modern weapons systems, medical research, environmental science or emerging technology?” What’s to know Sam? Financial markets are the development of materialistic Western thinking. Contrary to sacred economic beliefs, they do nothing to help their fellow man. Regarding weapons systems, everything Western man ever developed has ultimately become a weapon. Why medical research? Man was designed to be healthy. The pollution of his way of life has created illness. I bet you believe vaccinations prevent disease.
Let’s look at a religious sect called the Pennsylvania Dutch whose members do not vaccinate their children, who do not use modern methods of farming, who do not send their children to public school beyond the eighth grade, who in general are far removed from elitist values. Their children do not get autism, they do not have high mortality rates of childhood diseases, they do not have divorce, and they live well, so well that they have expanded their influence to 28 states. Also, they do not have the phenomenal rates of depression experienced by the intellectual elite and their “liberated” followers.
You opine that Palin “Is as devout and literal-minded in her Christian dogmatism as any man or woman in the land.” Is she more literal minded and dogmatic than the elitists? Literalism and dogmatism emanate from the European, feminine, materialistic psyche. Science, which is nothing more than Western man’s somewhat orderly record of his ignorance about himself and the universe in which he lives, is dogmatic. Have your ever wondered why only Western man has theories? It’s because he doesn’t know anything; his ignorance continually motivates him to conduct studies. Then he pontificates on the results of these studies and creates aristocracies built upon the data of these studies.
You stated, “Teen pregnancy is a misfortune, plain and simple. At best, it represents bad luck (both for the mother and the child): at worst, as in the Palin’s case, it is a symptom of religious dogmatism.” Pregnancy is not caused by bad luck or by religious dogmatism; it is caused by sexual activity. It is indeed a misfortune for unwed teenage girls to engage in that activity. Regarding Palin’s opposition to sex education, as Tammy Bruce explained in her book, The Death of Right and Wrong, sex education today has become sexual education. We not only teach children “alternate lifestyles” we teach them how to participate in it. Sex clubs now exist among girls 10 and 11 years old and they perform acts that even prostitutes of old didn’t. The New York City school system hands out free condoms to all its students, an activity that derives from a complete lack of values caused by Western ignorance of the purpose of human existence. At least Palin is making an attempt at upholding fundamental moral principles while acknowledging human frailty.
You continue with the statement, “Palin seems capable of enacting policies so detached from the common interests of humanity, and from empirical reality, as to unite the entire world against us.” Isn’t most of the world united against us now? If not why do we have such a big war machine? Why do we have legions spread all over the globe? By the way Sam, there is no such thing as empirical reality. Empiricism is a construct of the myopic materialistic Western mind.
Getting back to your real concern, that McCain could be elected, and die in office. Let’s say that your opinions about Palin are right; that she is a twit, an airhead, and/or a vacuous political aberration. So what? As Professor Steven Goldberg indicated in his book, Why Men Rule, at the time of the great Queens of Europe, the power was always firmly ensconced in the hands of men. Today increasing numbers of women have positions in government, but nevertheless, the analogy will still hold—power will be firmly ensconced in the various branches and departments of the government.
In the final analysis Sam, it makes no difference who becomes president. We are witnessing the end of Western society. You gave short shrift to the concept of a greater power acting behind the materialistic activities and understanding of Western man. That view is another example of the dogmatic ignorance of Western society, especially propounded by the elitists. Whether the prediction in 1139 by Saint O’Morgir in Ireland that there would be 150 more Popes the last of which would be a Benedictine (Pope Benedict is the 150th from that date); the Mayan Calendar, which calls for a massive upheaval in December 2012; the Christian Armageddon; the Islamic “end of times”, the end of the feminine Piscean age, or just realizations of awakened individuals—Western society is collapsing.
The entire premise of your elitist thinking is of a finite material world run by superior individuals who make of themselves high priests. That view stems from European thought, which is feminine, materialistic, and aristocratic. There is another world out there Sam, and it functions outside of technology, science, Wall Street, the universities, and government. Get to know it; then you won’t be so worried about who becomes president.
You will also learn that the primary activity of humankind is the propagation and preservation of the species as part of its journey of spiritual growth. Men provide the environment and means for women to bring life into this world and nurture it. The structure through which they do it is called patriarchy—the natural structure of the universe. To make patriarchy work requires an expression of male assertiveness; an activity that Western man in general and the elitists in particular are loath to engage in.
